- Location: Auckland, New Zealand
- Industry: Steel Manufacturing
- Application: 4kW 8 Pole B5 Brake Motor Replacement
A major steel manufacturer in Auckland needed to replace a 4kW 8 Pole B5 brake motor used in a specific application. The challenge was that the existing motor had a non-standard shaft and flange, making it difficult to find a suitable replacement without re-engineering the entire application.
The main challenge was that standard IEC dimensions did not suit the application. This meant that either a specially engineered motor was required, or the entire application would need to be re-engineered, which would be costly and time-consuming.
Solution:
- Custom Engineering: TECO acquired the precise dimensions of the flange and shaft required from the customer and confirmed the specifications of the brake in use. TECO’s modification shop then took a standard 4D8S PSD motor and manufactured a custom shaft and flange. They also fitted the brake, removed the feet, and added additional lifting points.
- Direct Replacement: By engineering a direct replacement for the existing unit, TECO ensured the customer did not have to spend significant time, money, and effort re-engineering their application.
Benefits to the Steel Manufacturer:
- Seamless Integration: The custom-engineered solution allowed for a direct replacement, eliminating the need for extensive modifications.
- Cost and Time Efficiency: The solution saved the customer from the high costs and long timelines associated with re-engineering their entire application.
Results:
The steel manufacturer successfully replaced their non-standard brake motor with a custom-engineered TECO motor. This solution provided the necessary performance while saving significant time and money.
